My little IPv6 adventure ;)

Yeah we have all heard about it. Honestly i really don't know much about it. First some genereal knowledge about IPv6, then i'll get to my little story.

Internet Protocol version 6 or IPv6 is designed to succeed IPv4. These protocols are the standard by which information is sent across internet. One IPv4 address contain 32 bits of information, thus allowing us to create 2^32 number of possible IP addresses. In February 2011, last of these IPv4 addresses were assigned, marking the IPv4 exhaustion.
IPv6 was introduced in 1998 by the Internet Engineering task force to combat the long expected IPv4 exhaustion.

My little IPv6 adventure started with this test from hurricain electrics, where they test your knowledge on networking in relation to implementation of IPv6 protocol. Well, I came to Enthusiast stage with out much problem, but currently having a problem setting up a mail server.

IPv6 Certification Badge for pulasthi

I have successfully setup AAAA record for the mail server and the Mx records. The server got pinged with out a problem. I installed hMailserver and asked it to listen to my IPv6 address on ports 110 for SMTP. But for some reason that i currently don't understand, it is not listening to my IPv6 address. So, there i am stuck in my IPv6 adventure.. ;)

What is your big idea for the future..

You have until march 1st 2011 to submit your big idea for the future and win a trip to top of the world and to the tallest offshore platform built by mankind.

So hurry up and submit your big idea for the future.

LTTE Water wheel generator at Iranamadu

Water wheel generator, is a simple to implement design.

The power that can be generated by a water wheel is directly related to the level at which water is directed to the wheel, the diameter of the wheel and the amount of water water carried by the wheel.

As you can see, more the diameter of the wheel more the torque to turn the generator. Available space / height is critical in determining the optimum diameter of the wheel.

Material used are things you can easily find any where. So when combined with some electrical control steps, you have a home made hydro electrical plant, that is if you have a usable steam of water.. lOl

Water wheels are often used to run mills and pumps.

Rainbow

Have you ever seen a rainbow from above.. You don't often see rainbows from above. But sometimes you might get lucky at world's end in Horten plains to see a rainbow from above.. ;)

Organizing your bibliographies...

After a long time thought of adding a post to my blog. This is to share with you a cool tool that will help you organize your bibliographies. If you are doing a research or need to do a literature review, it is essential to search for literature as well as to keep track of where it comes from. Also it would be cool if you can just link to references at the ease of one click or two than manual typing all the references (in line or numbered). Manual entries will increase the chance of error and also consume lot of your time.

Isn't it wonderful if there is tool that would enable you to search all major literature databases, download them right into your desktop, make a database of your own downloaded literature, allow you to reference them with just few clicks and finally make a list of all the references that you have used in what ever the standard system you want.

Unfortunately endnote is a commercial software. So only the trial version is available for free.

You can always use a torrent if you like. But i don't know how ethical it is.. :P
